Travel Charades // Paris Photo Diary 2011

We landed in Paris today, and it’s hard to believe that it’s been almost seven years since we’ve been to the City of Light. In preparing for our current trip, it was impossible not to reminisce about when we last traveled to France in the summer of 2011. With all of those memories coming to the forefront of my mind, I thought it would be fun to put together a Paris Photo Diary flashback post. Mind you, all of these images were captured on my old iPhone 4, so brace yourself for a few grainy photos. Regardless, the memories they represent are irreplaceable.

We stayed at Hotel Keppler, which is located on the border of the 8th and 16th arrondissements and just down the street from the Arc de Triomphe. The hotel was fantastic, and we almost booked another stay at Keppler this time around. In the end, we thought it would be more fun to try staying in a new part of the city.

Is it just me, or is the the boy in the background living his best life?

On a particularly sunny day of the trip, we trained out to Versailles to explore this stunning palace. Words cannot describe the opulence, and I wish we would have had more time to see more of this massive landmark.

Obligatory mural photo at Musée d’Orsay.

As can be expected, it rained for part of the time we were in Paris. After some morning sightseeing, we sought refuge at the iconic Parisian department stores. Although the size of both Galeries Lafayette and Printemps were incredible, Le Bon Marché was my absolute favorite.

Another great part about staying at Hotel Keppler was the relatively short walk to the Seine and views of the Eiffel Tower. On one of our last nights in Paris, we went on an after dinner walk to this iconic monument, umbrellas in hand.

Obligatory pink wall photo – some things never change!

Probably my favorite photo of the trip – or any trip for that matter. What you can’t see is a doting father with a professional camera taking photos of his little princess at Versailles. Best of all, she was serving him smize the entire time – lol!

Travel tip: when you are thinking of asking a stranger to take your photo, find someone who has a DSLR camera around their neck. The chances of them being able to manage a clear shot on a phone camera improves tenfold!
