Is it just me, or are you totally baffled by the weather lately?!? It was 85 degrees in Chicago on Monday, and the forecast calls for the low 50s by Friday! I stored away all of my summer clothing, only to unearth a few pieces in order to manage the past couple of days!

Now that the forecast finally calls for more appropriate fall climate, it’s time to start planning for even cooler weather. I will be the first to admit that I struggle with thinking ahead in terms of seasons. Each year, I tell myself, “Jenn, you live in Chicago, and you know what late fall and winter are like; make sure to get ahead of it this year!” Inevitably, February rolls around, and I am deep in regret for not finding a new coat or amazing pair of cold-weather boots. Why does that always happen? I’ve come to realize that I too often think of boots as merely functional. Chicago winters make me want to just hunker down and cross my fingers and (cold) toes in hopes of spring, forgetting all of the fun that cold weather brings. Pumpkin spice lattés, snow angels, and, most importantly, fun layered outfits are some of the best parts of the fall/winter season!

Nothing is more necessary that amazing pair of sturdy boots, and these SOREL riding boots hit all of the right notes. Waterproof? Check! Easy to pull on and off? Check! Insulated to keep my toes warm? Check! Super cute and pairs perfectly with my favorite pink coat? Check and CHECK!

In terms of fit, I found them to be pretty true to size. I have another pair of SOREL boots that run small, so I had initially sized up when I ordered this riding style from Zappos. Wrong call – I definitely needed the next size down. Can I have a moment to tell you how easy it was?!? I typically really dislike exchanging things I buy online because of the hassle and the wait. It was almost too easy with Zappos – no joke. I just called their number, and they shipped out a new pair to me at no charge (I just had to send back my original boots within 14 days). The best part is that they were delivered a couple days later! SO easy!

What are your favorite winter wardrobe items? Any fun cold weather boots on your radar? Let me know in the comments section below!
