Tod’s My Gommino Loafers

Style Charade Tod's Loafers

There’s nothing quite like being able to put your own creative spin on an outfit. From a piece of heirloom jewelry to a statement bag, there are countless ways to create a look that embodies your personality. Recently, Tod’s, the luxury Italian fashion house, reached out to see if I was open to creating my own pair of customized Gommino loafers. Needless to say, I accepted their offer faster than you can say “Ciao!”

One of my earliest experiences with Tod’s was about ten years ago when I was invited to their Chicago boutique for an event hosted by Laura Linney. My husband and I still have an inside joke about that event to this day. As it turns out, I was standing near Laura while I was looking at a few handbags, and she made a really sweet comment to me, and then she glanced briefly at Bob and smiled. My reaction was, “Laura Linney is so nice!” Bob’s reaction was, “Laura Linney is totally in love with me!” Granted, if you know Bob, you know he is a jokester at heart, so he was being sarcastic, but it definitely stuck. Any time Laura Linney is in a move or TV show, we look at each other and laugh. Then, inevitably he will say, “Laura Linney loves me.” LOL

Create Your Own Tod’s Loafers

Okay, back to these Tod’s My Gommino loafers. In short, the brand has a program where you can completely customize a pair of their classic driving shoes. From the type of leather to the color, the stitching, soles, and even a monogram, they can create something completely unique, based on your selections. This can be done online or in any of their boutiques and is available for both men’s and women’s shoes.

Earlier this summer, I went to the Oak Street location where their staff guided me through each step of the process. Right away, I knew I wanted a pair that would work well with a casual or dressy look. I chose their textured calfskin in light pink, along with matching stitching and my monogram on the outsole. If you feel like being really adventurous, they even have exotic, patent, and suede leathers to choose from. Once you make your decisions, the order is sent to Italy, where the shoes are hand crafted. My shoes took just about six weeks to be created and sent back to the Tod’s boutique. Best of all, they turned out even more lovely than I had imagined!
