Planning a quick weekend escape is so good for the soul, don’t you agree? While I love longer vacations to exotic destinations, I’ve found that shorter trips are an easy alternative when an extra dose of R&R is needed. It seems that I’m not alone! According to U.S. tourism statistics, 64 percent of Americans plan to go on a summer weekend getaway this year. We all love weekend trips – and who can blame us? There are countless dynamic domestic destinations to visit!

After a few busy weeks at work, my husband and I decided to book a quick trip to sunny San Diego. It was my first time visiting “America’s Finest City,” and it definitely lived up to its nickname. Beyond the perfect weather (70’s and sunny), San Diego has an amazing array of places to visit, shop, dine, and explore. About a three-and-a-half hour flight from Chicago, this West Coast gem is ideal for families, small groups, and romantic getaways.

It’s no secret that I’m very picky about travel – especially when it comes to hotels and resorts. It often takes me months, sometimes even a year to decide on the perfect destination. However, that was not at all the case for this past weekend. Hotel del Coronado was at the top of my list. Best of all? It was love at first sight.

Driving up to the property felt like going towards a beacon of light. The iconic, historic Hotel del Coronado (“The Del”) has been the ultimate West coast destination for nearly 130 years, and it’s the the ideal beach vacation.

After checking into our full ocean view room, we immediately ventured out to get something to eat. Thankfully, The Del has more than a half dozen options of places to have a meal or a relaxing drink. For our first evening, we dined at Babcock & Story, the bar/lounge overlooking the Pacific ocean. We decided on a few appetizers along with an Orange Ave Wit from Coronado Brewing Company (which is conveniently located on the other side of Coronado Island – less than two miles away).

Aside from it’s rich history, amazing views, and stunning architecture, I love that there are countless options at The Del. If you want a quiet beachfront getaway, you can book a stay at the Beach Village and feel like you’re a world away from the day-to-day grind. If you’re traveling with kids, there are pools, activities, and endless ways to enjoy the sun and fun. For us, relaxing on our expansive balcony, watching the sunset and enjoying each other’s company was the perfect way to spend a weekend!

Seeing that the the legendary Hotel del Coronado is situated on the idyllic Colorado Island, you truly feel like you’re in a whole other world. It’s hard to believe that it’s less than a twenty minute drive to the airport! It’s no wonder The Del has been the answer to the question “where to stay in San Diego?” for Hollywood stars, presidents of state, and celebrities worldwide since the 1880s!

Special thanks to Hotel del Coronado for hosting us at their property. Partnerships like these make Style Charade possible. See more of my #TravelCharades here!
