Spring cleaning is a concept we’re all familiar with… clean your home, unpack your summer clothes, and basically get your life in order. But what about fall cleaning? Why isn’t there a big push for autumnal planning and organization?

This past weekend, I spent a huge chunk of time getting our house (and my closet) transitioned, only to realize that “fall cleaning” is ten times harder! Seriously. It’s really HARD!

What is it about the post-summer transition that’s so tricky? Sure, the wardrobe is tough because you’re trading-in light rompers and tank tops for bulky sweaters and jackets. But what else? After cleaning our home and filling three bags of clothing donations to the brim, I realize that fall is complicated because it’s the season to focus on nesting. Hibernating, if you will. As a lifelong Chicagoan, when temps drop, my immediate response is to go into a Y2K-like lockdown! I stock up as many supplies as possible for all of the “what if” scenarios.

What if I get snowed in? I’ll need LOTS of clothing layers, every possible snow shovel on the planet, and of course Sorel and UGG boots. What if it’s a torrential downpour and I need to get dinner after work? Alright, time to pull out the Joules and Hunter wellies and alllllll the umbrellas!

Okay, so those footwear styles actually do come in handy during fall and winter, but what about the outliers? The items in your closet that you really don’t need? This past weekend taught me that I want to be mindful of my purchases for fall.

Today’s charade is all about being careful going into this next season. Every single piece is AWESOME – great transitional styles that work for multiple occasions, and they’re items versatile enough to pair with almost everything in your closet.

The foundation piece of the outfit? These Marc Fisher Vashi ankle strap sandals. Beyond being super comfortable, I’m obsessed with the neutral color and that they’re a perfect blend of sandal and bootie. Plus, I always get tons compliments when I wear them! I can’t say enough amazing things about these heels! Given that I have featured them multiple time in the past, you can tell that they are a real workhorse shoe (previous posts here, here, and here.)

I paired them with this beautiful ivory lace dress (I still can’t believe it’s only $79) and my suede moto jacket, which has been on major repeat lately – it pairs perfectly with denim and dresses. I love every single piece so much, and it makes me SO excited for the new season ahead!
