NYFW: Lela Rose Spring 2020

Style Charade Lela Rose

We’re all familiar with the “Sunday Scaries,” right? That feeling you have at the very end of the weekend: racing thoughts about the work week ahead along with the pending dread of your alarm clock. You get the picture. Thankfully, I was able to skip that Sunday night feeling because my Monday involved attending the Lela Rose Spring 2020 runway show. It was definitely a “pinch me” moment, as I’ve been a longtime fan of the brand. Imagine my surprise when they reached out to offer me an outfit to wear for the day! It was such a thoughtful touch on their part. I’ve shared a few of Lela’s colorful looks recently on the blog (here and here), and I’m excited to share what’s in store for spring of 2020!

The theme of the runway show was “Café Lela.” In fact, I learned that (aside from designing), Lela LOVES to entertain. So much so that she prefers to do all the cooking herself, as long as it’s a party of 18 or fewer people. Color me impressed! I tend to use my oven for storage, so imagining this talented woman whipping up multiple courses for more than a dozen people is quite amazing.

Needless to say, the Lela Rose runway show illustrated her love for a soirée. Set alongside a pier overlooking the Hudson River, the setting had the perfect “dining al fresco” flare. Of course, each table was set with a few baguettes and drinks to help with the vibe. The most eye-catching aspect of the experience (aside from the gorgeous clothes) were the yellow rose petals that adorned the runway. The models glided along as though they were Dorothy’s modern day counterparts in search of The Emerald City!

Both the event theme and the clothes were distinctively New York. In case there were any doubts of where Lela calls home, several day dresses and separates included large scale prints of the Manhattan skyline and Central Park done up in pinks and blues. Unsurprisingly, Lela’s cocktail and party dresses stole the show. A few of my favorites? The blue ombré dotted maxi dress with floral appliqué and the yellow midi dress with white floral lace details.

The Lela Rose spring 2020 woman is distinctively Charlotte with a touch of Carrie. Ladylike midi dresses and pleats abound, but a few bare midriffs and bold prints offer up a youthful touch. Best of all, Lela’s use of color is magnifique! I can’t wait to shop this collection at the start of the next decade!

(PS – see if you can spot me in the photo above, lol!)
