What Happened at SetSailSummer // Friday Charades

Jennifer Lake Mackenzie Horan Liz Joy Julia, Dzafic Jessica Sturdy Liz Adams

Have you ever had a perfect day you wish you could relive all over again? For me, Wednesday’s #SetSailSummer event with Sail to Sable, Palm Beach Lately, Jack Rogers, and Monogram Mary was one of those days.

In the past, I’ve declined most local mid-week event invitations due to my work schedule. An out of town gathering on a Wednesday? Forget about it! However, after receiving a message from Beth and Danielle about a party they were hosting, I knew I had to attend. They are seriously wonderful! Plus, I have a bunch of Sail to Sable pieces in my closet and absolutely adore their brand and team. The #SetSailSummer event was the perfect way to kick-off the warm weather in (literal) style.

Overall, this summer I’ve decided to use my vacation days wisely and make time to get to know some of my go-to brands (and the people behind them) better. In previous years, Bob and I would jet set to international locales to checkout the hottest new hotels, destinations, or sit poolside sipping margaritas. But this year, we’re staying more domestic and finally saying “yes” to cool brand-focused experiences.

The Road to #SetSailSummer

Anyway, I took a personal day from work and flew to New York first thing Wednesday morning. Upon landing, I carpooled with Jess to Connecticut. Let me tell you, Jess is the perfect companion for a road trip. Although we’ve known each other for years, we’ve been able to spend more time together over the past few months thanks to the Kentucky Derby (and this experience too). She’s so funny and sweet! Of all the millions of other wonderful things I could say about Jess, one characteristic rises to the top – her innate ability to make anyone and everyone feel comfortable around her. It was great to catch up!

Anyway, we drove to Connecticut and checked-in to the Roger Sherman Inn in New Canaan. The four-star inn was charming, and had 15 perfectly appointed suites. I stayed in 26 Superior Main, which had the cutest bold red wallpaper, fireplace, and bathroom.

As a side note, the Inn has a fantastic outdoor patio, restaurant, and bar. The spaces were constantly filled with Connecticut’s finest. The food must also be delicious because the restaurant was always PACKED. Sadly, we didn’t get the chance to eat there, but at the end of the night, our group shut down the bar. Lol!

Ladies Who Lunch

As Jess and I were settling in, we decided to head into town to grab a quick lunch. After standing outside gathering our thoughts and Googling possible options, we bumped into Danielle and McKenna. After seeing them, I’m convinced my shrieks of joy were probably heard all the way to California!

McKenna and I know each other quite well, and we even attended the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic Los Angeles in 2016 together! She’s getting married next week, and I can’t wait to follow along on Instagram. She’s a gem, and immediately puts me at ease when I see her! Danielle and I have also been following one another on Instagram for years, but we’ve never met in-person. She’s so hilarious and smart! I loved chatting with her the entire trip.

The four of us Ubered into town to grab lunch at Uncorked. After being dropped off, we headed straight for the patio and ran into Liz and Liz! Another fun reunion! I’ve seen Liz Adams a bunch over the past few months, but I hadn’t seen Liz Joy since Fairmont Mayakoba.

Caffeine Break

After a fun lunch and great conversations, we headed next door to grab ice coffees and stumbled into Jenn, Lainey, and Krystal! Last summer (about the same time), the three of us were on Nantucket for a fun trip with another brand. I also met Lainey before on a trip, and she’s a sweetheart too. Love another fun reunion!

SetSailSummer Event at Wee Burn Beach Club

We all returned to the Inn to get ready for the main event. Prior to the party, Sail to Sable was kind enough to reach out to all attendees to ask us which piece from their collection we’d like to wear for the experience. Within seconds, I selected this gorgeous navy maxi dress with turquoise trim and paired it with this Lele Sadoughi headband.

After arriving at Wee Burn Beach Club for their SetSailSummer party, we made our way to the picturesque patio outside. There are not enough words about how beautiful the beachfront club is! Kids were splashing in the water and sunbathing on rocks.

From that moment forward, the rest of day felt like a mix of a family reunion, homecoming, and stylish soiree all in one. The Whispering Angel flowed from bottles, and laughter filled the air. I go the chance to meet two more people in-person who I’ve been dying to meet – Julia from Lemon Stripes and Kerrie Burke – both of whom I’ve followed for quite some time.

The hosts – Sail to Sable, Palm Beach Lately, Jack Rogers, Monogram Mary – couldn’t have been more generous! No detail was overlooked from the décor to the food – delicious lobster rolls and fries, ice cream sandwiches, sparklers, and even a candy bar.

It was a joy to catch up with so many friends, and also to make so many new ones! It’s an experience I won’t soon forget!
