Fall fashion will always have my heart. Give me a great cable knit sweater, a tailored blazer, and a fabulous pair of jeans, and I’m a happy girl. There’s something about this time of year that makes getting dressed especially fun. The rich colors, cozy textures, and endless layering possibilities are hard to resist.
With the temperatures finally starting to cool down, I’ve been having so much fun putting together new outfits and revisiting some longtime favorites in my closet. From polished workwear to casual weekend looks, I’m leaning into timeless pieces that feel fresh, comfortable, and easy to style.
Today, I’m sharing seven of my favorite fall outfit ideas for women, including a few recent purchases, investment pieces I swear by, and wardrobe staples that I reach for year after year. Whether you’re looking for something to wear to the office, on a weekend getaway, or out to dinner, I hope these looks offer a little inspiration for the season ahead!
Classic Fall Outfit: Striped Shirt Dress and Cable Knit Sweater
Leave it to Polo Ralph Lauren to create the kind of timeless pieces that make getting dressed feel effortless. I’ve always loved the brand’s classic American aesthetic, especially when it comes to fall fashion.
This striped shirt dress paired with a navy cable knit sweater is such a perfect example. The combination feels polished and preppy without being too precious. Plus, navy and white is one of my all-time favorite color combinations. It never goes out of style!
What I especially love about this outfit is how easily it transitions from work to weekend. Wear the pieces together for a layered fall look, or style the dress on its own when the weather is warmer. The sweater also looks fabulous with jeans, trousers, or draped over your shoulders for that quintessential Ralph Lauren look.
These are exactly the kinds of pieces I love investing in because I know I’ll wear them for years. Truly, forever closet staples!
Fall Work Outfit: Veronica Beard Miller Jacket
If you’ve followed along for a while, you already know about my love affair with the Veronica Beard Miller Jacket. It’s easily one of the most-worn pieces in my closet, especially for work meetings, business travel, and days when I want to look pulled together without spending too much time thinking about my outfit.
I’m pretty sure I own this blazer in 10 colors at this point. Excessive? Maybe. Worth it? Absolutely!
What makes the Miller Jacket so special is the tailoring. The silhouette is flattering, the structure is beautiful, and it instantly elevates even the simplest outfit. I can throw it on over a T-shirt and jeans and immediately feel ready for the day.
Another reason I’m such a fan is Veronica Beard’s collection of interchangeable dickeys. They’re such a clever way to change the look of a blazer without adding unnecessary bulk. Depending on the style, you can create the appearance of a layered sweater, hoodie, or other neckline underneath.
For anyone building a capsule wardrobe or searching for a versatile fall blazer, I can’t recommend this piece enough. It’s one of those rare purchases that genuinely earns its place in your closet. I own the style in like ten colors (including the black with gold button version, which is my second most worn style).
3. Chic Fall Accessories: The Perfect Work Tote Bag
A beautiful work bag can completely transform an outfit, and I’m always on the hunt for styles that balance fashion and function.
Since I head into an office every week and travel regularly for work, I need bags that feel sophisticated enough for meetings while still being practical for everyday life. Easier said than done!
The moment I spotted this gorgeous quilted tote, I was sold. The texture gives it such an interesting look, and the color feels especially perfect for fall. I love how the quilting adds dimension without making the bag feel overly busy.
It’s also the kind of accessory that makes a simple outfit look much more intentional. Think tailored trousers, a cashmere sweater, and a beautiful tote. Sometimes that’s all you need!
If you’re looking to refresh your fall work wardrobe without buying an entirely new outfit, a statement bag is such a fun place to start.
Casual Fall Outfit: Embroidered Blazer, White Jeans, and Sneakers
Who says you have to put away your white jeans after Labor Day? Certainly not me! In fact, I think white denim looks especially chic during fall when paired with darker colors, interesting prints, and structured layers.
Case in point, this fabulous navy embroidered blazer. Isn’t the pattern gorgeous? I love a statement jacket that does most of the work for you, and this one immediately caught my eye.
I paired it with my favorite white jeans, which have a slightly cropped silhouette. The length is ideal for showing off a great pair of shoes, whether that’s a ballet flat, loafer, or sneaker.
Speaking of shoes, let’s talk about these white sneakers. They’re incredibly comfortable and go with practically everything in my wardrobe. I wear white sneakers constantly, especially when traveling or spending a full day on my feet.
This is one of my favorite casual fall outfit formulas because it feels relaxed while still looking polished. Perfect for weekend errands, lunch with friends, or exploring a new city.
Cozy Fall Weekend Outfit: Favorite Daughter Sweatshirt and Jeans
Every once in a while, I find a piece of clothing that makes me smile for reasons beyond the actual design. This Favorite Daughter sweatshirt is definitely one of them.
Favorite Daughter is a relatively new brand to me, and this sweatshirt was my very first purchase. As the only daughter in my family, the name immediately reminded me of my dad.
He absolutely LIVES for a dad joke. Growing up, he would introduce me as his “favorite daughter,” pause for dramatic effect, and then add, “Granted, she’s my only one.” Ha! Classic dad humor, right?
Naturally, I couldn’t resist.
Beyond the sentimental connection, the sweatshirt itself is SO soft. Now I completely understand why people rave about the brand. It’s the kind of cozy piece you immediately want to wear again after washing it.
For a casual fall outfit, I love pairing a great sweatshirt with comfortable jeans and sneakers. It’s an easy combination for travel days, coffee runs, and lazy weekends when you still want to look cute.
Another recent addition to my closet is the Veronica Beard Drake Embroidered Jacket. The pattern is absolutely fabulous, and I love how it brings personality to simple denim looks. Throw it over a basic top, and suddenly the entire outfit feels special.
Monochromatic Fall Outfit: Winter White and Ivory Layers
If there’s one fall and winter outfit combination I will never tire of, it’s an all-ivory look.
I’ve been wearing monochromatic ivory outfits since high school, and my love for them has only grown over the years. There’s something so elegant about mixing different shades of cream, oatmeal, and winter white. It’s understated, sophisticated, and always feels incredibly chic.
Think Nancy Meyers interiors meets Diane Keaton’s wardrobe. Basically, my dream aesthetic!
This season, I invested in this beautiful cashmere cable-knit cardigan, and I absolutely adore it. The texture is gorgeous, and it’s the perfect layering piece for cooler weather. I paired it with these ivory jeans, which have quickly become a favorite.
If you’re looking for a new pair of jeans, I highly recommend giving this style a closer look. I love how versatile ivory denim can be, especially when styled with other neutrals.
I also recently added this ivory handbag to my collection. The half-moon silhouette is so fun and gives the entire look a more modern feel.
My favorite trick for wearing monochromatic outfits is to mix textures. Cashmere, cable knits, denim, and quilted accessories create visual interest, even when everything falls within the same color family.
And please don’t feel like you need to save white for spring and summer. Winter white is one of the prettiest ways to dress for fall!
Fall Date Night Outfit: Fringe Dress
Leave it to Zimmermann to create the most unique, memorable dress. I LOVE this fringe patterned mini dress (which fits true to size). The pattern and colors are rich and vibrant, making it a true statement piece for date night or a fun night out with friends. Best of all, it’s also available in a pant version, which can be styled easily with a white button-down shirt or t-shirt.
Fall Striped Outfit
It’s no secret I’m a sucker for all things striped, and this brown and ivory striped midi dress is divine. This brand and I go way back, and it’s always a joy to see what they’re going to come out with every season.
One quick fit note – be sure to size up one size if you have a slightly larger bust. I typically always wear a size 4 in this brand, and needed to size up since it was a bit too fitted in the chest.
Dressy Fall Outfit: A Statement Embellished Dress
Every fall wardrobe deserves at least one piece that feels extra special, and this embellished dress was love at first sight.
Seriously, I can’t even put into words how much I adore it! Granted, I’ve been a huge fan of Lela Rose for countless years, and grateful to have attended her New York Fashion Week show in the past.
Between the beautiful embellishments and the unique silhouette, it immediately stood out to me. I love finding dresses with thoughtful details that make them feel distinctive without being overly trendy.
Yes, it’s an investment. However, I’ve learned that some of my favorite wardrobe purchases are the pieces I genuinely love and continue reaching for season after season.
Another thing I appreciate about this dress is its styling potential. For a more polished look, I plan to pair it with a tailored blazer and heels. On cooler days, a beautiful cardigan would soften the look and make it feel a little more relaxed.
It’s also a wonderful option for fall dinners, special occasions, and events when you want to wear something memorable.
Sometimes you just know when a piece belongs in your closet. This was definitely one of those moments!
My Favorite Fall Outfit Ideas and Wardrobe Staples
When it comes to fall fashion, I always find myself returning to a handful of tried-and-true pieces. Beautiful sweaters, well-fitting jeans, tailored blazers, and interesting accessories make getting dressed so much easier.
I also love mixing investment pieces with more casual finds. A great blazer can elevate your favorite jeans, while a cozy sweatshirt feels a little more polished when paired with beautiful accessories. You don’t need an entirely new wardrobe each season to create outfits that feel fresh.
For me, the best fall outfits are the ones that feel comfortable, reflect your personal style, and make you excited to get dressed in the morning.
