How to Choose the Best J Crew Coat

As a lifelong Chicagoan, I’ve learned it’s never too early to start thinking about outerwear. After all, while the weather is still warm, the temps always seem to take a quick turn. It’ll be Halloween before we know it! 🙂 One of my fave brands for outerwear? J Crew. Friends, a J Crew coat is truly an essential for a woman’s closet. Plus, their jackets won’t break the bank.

After all, fall and winter coats can get super expensive. Canada Goose and Moncler jackets, while warm and very comfortable, can run upwards of $2,000+. Thankfully, J. Crew’s purse-friendly price tags are helpful to staying within a decent budget.

Picking a J Crew Coat

Here’s the catch – there are SO many J Crew coat options. And the COLORS! Sure, you can opt for a neutral style (gray, black, tan, etc.). However, I strongly prefer a more vibrant option. Trust me, there’s nothing better than a bold colored coat to put you in the best mood. Plus, you’ll get a TON of compliments. Seriously!

J Crew Lady Day Coat

Since 2001, J Crew has been selling their Lady Day Coats. Now 20 years later, this timeless piece features Thinsulate which adds an extra layer of warmth. Furthermore, the silhouette and style are positively flattering and fabulous. Additionally, the coat is exclusively for the brand by Italy’s Manifattura di Carmignano mill.

As with most of J Crew’s jackets, they come in classic, petite and tall sizes. One important fit note – this jacket tends to run SMALL. Therefore, I recommend sizing up by one size. I

Quilted Cocoon Puffer

Similar to the Lady Day Coat, the Quilted Cocoon Puffer jacket with PrimaLoft has been a part of their collection for 10 years. The jacket has a slim fit and it’s one of their best-selling outerwear silhouettes. Additionally, the fabric is recycled poly and filled with PrimaLoft®, a down-alternative that’s designed for warmth. Overall, this coat fits true to size.

Statement Coats

Lastly, J Crew always does a phenomenal job of bringing unique statement coats each fall/winter season. For example, I’m obsessed with this color block coat that I bought from the brand a few years ago. It’s still on regular rotation each year, and I wish they came out with it again!
