Last Friday, I was honored to attend the kate spade new york Spring 2019 runway show. Not only was it the debut collection from their new Creative Director, Nicola Glass, but it was the first time the brand hosted a larger-scale runway show. Seasons past involved lively presentations or private events for editors and buyers. This new format was the perfect way to introduce kate spade new york’s next chapter.
The show took place at the New York Public Library, and they utterly transformed the interior into wall-to-wall pinks and pastels. It was so dreamy! In honor of the namesake and founder of the brand, the carpeting included a silver sparkly line upon which the models walked. Also, on each seat, there was a card with the words, “She left a little sparkle everywhere she went” inscribed. It was such a touching way to recognize the loss of an icon. Moreover, Nicola explained that the kate spade new york Spring 2019 collection had much to do with going back to the original DNA of the brand. The emphasis on lively color combinations and the new creative use of the spade logo reflected her enduring inspiration.
Given that my hotel was in walking distance of the venue (yay!), I arrived a few minutes before they opened the doors. While I was in line, I heard a “Jenn! Jenn!” from somewhere behind me, and it turned out to be Carly! It was wonderful to chat and catch up with her before the show, and it turned out that our runway seats were right next to each other. I could tell that Carly was just as thrilled as I was at each look that walked the runway. In fact, the entire room had such a giddy and positive energy throughout the show!
For today’s post, I’m sharing the look I wore to the show along with a few of my iPhone pics from the experience. The kate spade new york team was kind enough to send options to my hotel, and I also brought along one of my favorite bags from the brand. That morning, I had Glamsquad over to my hotel to create the perfect updo. Given the print of the jacket and pants, I knew that I wanted my hair off my shoulders. I love the chic chignon they created, and it held up perfectly in the humid weather!
Special thanks to kate spade new york for inviting me to the Spring 2019 runway show and for gifting an outfit to wear. It’s opportunities like these that make Style Charade possible.
