What is the Royal Ascot?
First, are you new to the Royal Ascot? If you’re a Brit, you’re likely familiar with the iconic occasion. In fact, their official motto is: “Like nowhere else.” Basically, the Royal Ascot is a high-profile event on the British social calendar. Since 1711, the annual affair occurs every June at the Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire, England. Part pomp, part tradition, and a whole lot of stylish fashion, the Royal Ascot remains a very special occasion.
Furthermore, the Royal Ascot is officially kicked off by the Queen Elizabeth. Plus, you get sightings of Will, Kate, and several other members of the Royal family. Basically, the occasion reminds me a lot of the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic – my favorite event in the U.S.

Royal Ascot 2022
The Royal Ascott 2022 will take place June 14-18, 2022 with gates opening at 10:30 AM. Additionally, the first race will take place at 2:30 PM and the final race being completed at 6:30 PM. Check out all of the Royal Ascot race times. Tickets range in price from $60-$200 with various enclosures to pick from, including the Royal enclosure (invitation only), Queen Anne enclosure, Village enclosure, and Windsor enclosure.
The Queen Anne Enclosure seems to be the top pick (well, the Royal Enclosure is the best, of course). What I love about the Queen Anne enclosure is that it’s truly the epicentre of Royal Ascot. Furthermore, it’s the only public enclosure granting views of the Parade Ring. Moreover, it’s where the vibrant high fashion and incredible millinery is seen everywhere.

Royal Ascot Dress Code
What? The Royal Ascot has a dress code? Indeed, the event has written (and unwritten) rules for how to dress for the day. In fact, The Royal Ascot Style Guide is famous for predicting some of the key trends for summer. Therefore, be sure to peruse the 2021 style guide for inspiration and ideas! Besides, it’s a fascinating read overall.
General Royal Ascot Dress Code Rules
Today, I wanted to give you a sampling of just some of the dress code rules. Keep in mind, there are additional rules depending on which section you’re in (Royal Enclosure, Queen Anne Enclosure, Village Enclosure, etc.). Below, I’m including a few rules:
- Dresses and skirts should be of modest length, falling just above the knee or longer
- Tops and dresses should have straps of one inch or greater
- Jumpsuits are welcome but should be of full-length to the ankle, with regulations matching that for dresses
- Hats should be worn; but a headpiece which has a base of 4 inches (10cm) or greater in diameter is an acceptable alternative

Based on research, I learned the Jolene dress takes its inspiration from beautiful vintage haute couture gowns. Finally, I absolutely love LK Bennett’s Hodgkin Toile de Jouy Print Cotton Dress. Designed out of 100% cotton, the fabric is breathable and doesn’t wrinkle too much. Above all, it’s a classic race day dress but it also can be worn for special occasions. Additionally, the fresh white and china blue with the vintage chintz-inspired toile de jouy print is just stunning!
