Veronica Beard Jack Riding Jacket // Investing in Designer Pieces

Happy Wednesday! Today’s post is from our recent December weekend in California. After spending a couple of days in Palm Springs, we made our way to Los Angeles before flying home. Needless to say, we tried to squeeze in every bit of sun before the journey back to Chicago! Throughout the weekend, I wore my new favorite Veronica Beard Jack riding jacket; it’s been the perfect designer addition to my closet.

When deciding whether to invest in a new designer item, I tend to take a few key steps. First, I consider the cost-per-use. In other words, will I wear it frequently enough to make it worth the cost? With this blazer and bag, for example, I’ve worn both of them many more times than some of the trendier, more inexpensive items in my wardrobe. Thus, the true cost has been much lower. Secondly, I try to imagine at least five different items I already own that might pair well with the new purchase. In other words, will it be versatile enough to warrant the splurge? There’s nothing worse than owning something amazing, but feeling stuck in terms of how to style it. Lastly, I sleep on it for a day or two. If I completely forget about the bag or dress by the time I’m sipping the next morning’s coffee, then it’s definitely not worth it. On the other hand, if I’m going back to the site to examine all of the details and photos repeatedly for a couple days, it’s a sign!

The vast majority of my best designer investments have been from Nordstrom. Not only is their collection incredible, but they offer tons of extra perks like in-store tailoring, Nordstrom Rewards, and free shipping. Some other recent designer investments of mine from Nordstrom include this colorful bag, this classic belt, and this lace midi dress. I’ve also recently bookmarked these cute gingham heels! What splurge items do you have on your radar?
